medium: kinetic sculpture
This field of kinetic sculptures implement closed-loop control systems. Each sculpture contains a micro controller, servo motor and accelerometer in a feedback loop that dictates the behavior of found materials. What happens to our relationships with objects when the hierarchy of control breaks down? How do we undo and reform relationships with objects as a result of instability? Why do we make distinctions between natural and unnatural? How can we feel empathy for objects we do not classify as ‘alive’? This work examines questions of stability and control, evoking empathy through animacy at a human scale.
